Taking specialist trailers abroad
If you intend to take a trailer abroad then check if your trailer needs to be registered to go abroad on the .gov website here. You must register commercial trailers over 750kg gross weight and all trailers over 3,500kg gross weight before towing them through some European countries.
If this applies, you will need to fix the trailer registration plate to the back, as well as the towing vehicle’s number plate. Fix the trailer registration plate as far away as possible from the towing vehicle’s number plate. If you cannot fix the trailer registration plate on the back of your trailer, fix it to both sides instead near to the rear. Make sure they’re clearly visible.
